The Y Canberra Region is part of the largest global youth movement, reaching nearly 65 million people across 120 countries on every continent.
Founded as the YMCA, the Y movement was established in Australia in 1850 and has served communities for nearly 200 years. From its early focus on youth work, clubs, physical development, leadership training, education, and welfare, the Y has continuously evolved to meet the changing needs of local communities.
Today, the Y Canberra Region operates under a Federated governance model and is governed nationally by Y Australia (formerly YMCA Australia). This network includes 12 licensed Member Y Associations working across the country, collectively making a positive impact in over 650 communities. Together, we employ more than 12,000 people and recorded over 23 million visits to our programs and facilities in the past year.
Y member organisations, including the Y Canberra Region, are united by our Vision 2030 and four Strategic Pillars. With a strong shared history, we are committed to tackling community challenges and standing with—and for—children and young people to build a better world.
