Volunteer

Volunteering has always been an integral component of the Y Canberra Region. Volunteers are part of the fabric of the organisation and their work as part of the YMCA team facilitates achieving our vision and mission.

Volunteering provides the opportunity for people to:

  • make a difference in their community
  • make new friends with like-minded people
  • share skills with others
  • stay active and engaged
  • learn new skills
  • engage with people of different ages, abilities and ethnicities.

Volunteering Opportunities

We believe that volunteering should be about matching your skillsets and interests so that you are in the best position to make a difference. At different times of the year we offer interesting and rewarding opportunities for volunteers to become involved in projects and events that make a real difference to the Canberra Region.

Areas where volunteers have assisted the Y previously include supporting Sailing Club events and regattas, documenting history of the organisation, representation on the Board of Directors and operating our auxiliary op shop, which closed in 2020.

If you have a set of skills that you would like to share and help build strong people, families and communities, we encourage you to get in contact with us using the enquiry form below.

Safeguarding children and young people

At The Y Canberra Region safeguarding is embedded in our organisational culture. We are dedicated to providing safe, inclusive environments where children and young people are respected, protected and heard. Our commitment is demonstrated through the implementation of well-defined Safeguarding Children and Young People policies and procedures, ongoing staff training to identify and mitigate risks and a zero-tolerance approach to child abuse or neglect. We actively partner with families and children to ensure they feel empowered to raise concerns with confidence, and we fulfil all legal obligations to report and respond to any matters related to safety or welfare.
